Anneliese B. 2018 Fellow
Anneliese B. spent the first semester of her gap year living in Barcelona, Spain. There, she interned at Advanced Nanotechnologies, a company focused on a patented nanoparticle deposition technique that allows them to create nano-thin layers of different substances. Throughout this internship, she got to work hands on with the rest of the team, working in not only data collection, but also in marketing and graphic design.
She obtained this internship through Connect 123, a company that specializes in setting up eager young adults in internships abroad. She stayed in an apartment that she rented through Barcelona Design Flats, an apartment that housed 5 other foreign students all studying abroad at the University of Barcelona. The friendships that manifested from these flat mates are ones that she is extremely grateful for.
For the second semester of her gap year, Anneliese is going to be traveling through Chile and Cuba with a travel program, ARCC. Anneliese, along with 7 other students, will be backpacking for three months. These three months include homestays with Chilean gauchos, treks through the Andes mountains, working with local children and teaching them English, taking in Havana’s rich history, and many more exciting experiences.
This gap year has allowed Anneliese to get experience in a field that she is interested is, as well as fields she has not previously considered, while simultaneously seeing parts of the world that she would not otherwise be able to see.
