Haunani B. 2017 Fellow
Haunani plans on leaving in September for Haiti. She will be working with Partners in Health, an NGO based in third world countries looking to permanently serve the community.
While in Haiti she will be focusing on the administrative side of hospital work and understanding how critical effective and efficient administration is in the functionality of hospitals as well as how important a stable healthcare system is in building a strong nation. She will be primarily working in the newly built rural hospital, but will also get a chance to see the more urban side of Haiti.
Following Haiti, Haunani will jet off to Sri Lanka to intern in midwifery through Projects Abroad. Interning entails shadowing doctors and midwives in pre-natal care, live births, and post-natal care. She will be living with a host family to fully immerse herself into the culture.
After Haiti and Sri Lanka Haunani wants to go to Taiwan to visit her family and possibly teach English. Following her month long stay in Taiwan, Haunani is considering a slight detour to Japan to study the art of Japanese ceramics, a hobby Haunani picked up during her time at Harvard- Westlake.
Her gap year ends with a possible internship in New York.
Haunani is taking every opportunity to make her gap year as unique and special as possible!
