Tosh L. 2019 Fellow
This summer Tosh will be working with kids as an instructor of Cedar Ridge Camp's Drama program while also studying Spanish thanks to online classes and other programs. At the end of the summer, he will continue these lessons while also focusing on volunteering with church groups such as the Unitarian Universalist Church Group in Downtown Los Angeles to help with their food drive, tutoring young children, and a variety of other services. During that time, he will also volunteer with the environmental organization Tree People to promote ecological sustainability and conservation by planting new trees, removing invasive species, and promoting the growth of native flora and fauna.
For Tosh's second semester, he will be venturing abroad, as in January will travel to Vietnam with the Global Health Reach organization on a medical mission. From February to April, Tosh will be in Costa Rica as a part of a gap year program from Verto Education on ecology and Spanish cultural immersion. Through both of these programs he will use as an opportunity to consider renewable energy in developing countries. By traveling around both Vietnam and Costa Rica. Tosh will be able to make observations on what forms of renewable energy will be most useful for each locale, as certain forms of generating energy are more efficient depending on the culture, the geography, the population, and beyond. By utilizing his journeys in this fashion, Tosh will be able to learn and gain a greater perspective on energy as a whole, which is something which he strongly believes will assist him later in life as we face an energy crisis that only grows in severity.
